The Health Care Bill Nobody Wants to Talk About

January 20: SurveyUSA polls one of the suburban districts that will be key to the Democrats’ ability to hold the House in 2010, this time Tim Bishop in (NY-01). Bishop holds a 2 point lead over potential GOP challenger Randy Altschuler, who was already up on the air with ads. Unlike Snyder and Driehaus’s GOP-leaning districts, Bishop’s district has a +3 PVI Democratic advantage. Party affiliation in the district is 27% GOP, 33% Democratic and 39% Independent. When asked how they feel about a health care bill which forces them to buy insurance or pay a penalty, 66% of Independents say they are opposed and 48% say they are strongly opposed.

Democratic incumbent Tim Bishop is favored to win in New York's 1st U.S. House race, as he has since 2002. He's easily beat previous opponents. But this is a competitive district in terms of demographics, which puts it in the cross-hairs of Republicans seeking to whisk away as many Democratic-held districts as possible this year. Randy Altschuler is the Republican pick after the Sept. 14 primary, and he may pose a significant challenge to Bishop.

Mitt Romney's Empire State Endorsements

...the former Massachusetts governor -- whose team was behind the headline-making win of Bay State Sen. Scott Brown  -- is lending his name to (and opening his wallet) these NY Congressional hopefuls: Incumbent Reps. Pete King and Chris Lee, Randy Altschuler...

“At a time when we need leaders who will enact pro-growth policies that will turn our troubled economy around and put people back to work, too many Washington politicians are instead focused on growing the size of government. New York - and our nation - deserves leaders who will put the interests of the people ahead of the special interests, and work to get our economy back on track. That is why I am proud to stand with these candidates today,” said Romney.

Randy is facing incumbent Rep. Tim Bishop (D) in November.

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) announced today that Randy Altschuler (NY-01) has reached 'Young Gun' status

"Randy Altschuler has proven that he's ready to take on Washington insider Tim Bishop, an out-of-touch Democrat who has blindly supported his party's failed agenda of job-killing policies and reckless spending," said NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX). "Randy's campaign is a symbol of the growing momentum behind Republican candidates in New York and across the country. As Democrats and their party bosses continue to force  their big-government, big-spending policies onto the backs of hard-working families, Republicans like Randy Altschuler will continue to present a clear alternative to a Democrat majority that unapologetically spends too much, borrows too much and taxes too  much."
