NY-01: GOP Shows Potential Trouble For Bishop

Caveat: this poll was conducted for Randy Altschuler's campaign. On the surface, these may seem like strong numbers for Bishop as he holds a 20-point lead. But underneath, the numbers don't look quite as rosy for the four-term Congressman. Altschuler is a complete unknown in this district and yet he holds Bishop to under 50% of the vote, and he has the resources to get his name out there. Also, Obama's approval rating in the district is only 47% in a district he won with 52% of the vote last year, and the Republicans lead in the generic ballot question 38%-34%. This district, which takes in much of Eastern Long Island (east of about Stony Brook or so), is exactly the kind of district the GOP needs to win back if they want control of the House.
